Maya studied at Texas Tech University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a concentration in large animal studies, as well as a Master of Business Administration. During college, she worked in research laboratories focused on ruminant nutrition and animal behavior in swine, canines, sheep, and cattle. Maya is also a published author on swine behavior in the journal Animals.

Maya later worked as a veterinary assistant in Hobart, Oklahoma, and shadowed several rural veterinary clinics throughout Southwest Oklahoma, from Arapaho to Altus, as well as in West Texas. Through her education and hands-on experience, she has worked with animals at every stage of life, from newborns to geriatrics, and with species ranging from pocket-sized rodents to draft horses.

Meet Loca

While working at Ark Veterinary Clinic, Maya met and rescued her Border Collie, Loca. Loca had been brought to the clinic from a local shelter and was scheduled for euthanasia when Maya met her. What began as a rescue quickly became a lifelong partnership and the inspiration behind Loca Ranch & Animal Care.

Over the years, Loca has grown into a confident and well-rounded dog with a natural ability to interact appropriately with other animals. She understands boundaries, knows when to engage and when to give another animal space, and has developed into a dog who is both playful and respectful of those around her.

Loca has helped shape Maya's approach to animal care: every animal is an individual. Each has its own personality, routines, boundaries, and way of communicating. Quality care means taking the time to understand the animal in front of you rather than expecting every animal to respond the same way.

Our Approach

Today, Maya offers pet owners, farmers, and ranchers peace of mind while they are away for personal or business travel. Loca Ranch & Animal Care provides personalized care designed around each animal's established routine and individual needs.

Whether caring for a companion animal in the home or a variety of animals on a farm or acreage, our goal is simple: to provide reliable, knowledgeable, and compassionate care while helping owners feel confident that their animals are in good hands.
